Words of Welcome
A word of Welcome from Rev. Susan Townsley:
Thank you for checking out South Church in Kennebunkport. Our congregation and building are old, but our thinking is not. We have a legacy of being present to the community in service, welcome, justice and love, and we are always seeking God’s fresh vision for us. We strive to make faith real and relevant. What this means is that no matter who you are, where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome. Whether you grew up in church, have never been particularly religious, or are just starting to explore spirituality, we welcome you to our community of wonder and joy.
We are always striving to follow Jesus, love God and serve our neighbors. We don't always get things right. So we rely on a lot of love and forgiveness. We enjoy each other and try not to take ourselves seriously even while we see to take our faith
seriously. Come and play, serve, reflect, laugh, learn, and be a part of this authentic community where you will make some good friends for the journey.
The UCC is a church of firsts, a church of extravagant
welcome, and a church where "…they may all be one"; (John 17:21).
The United Church of Christ (UCC) is a distinct and diverse community of
Christians that come together as one church to join faith and action. With over
5,000 churches and nearly one million members across the U.S.,
the UCC serves God in the co-creation of a just and sustainable world.
Since 1957, the United Church of Christ has been the church of firsts, weaving
God’s message of hope and extravagant welcome with action for justice and
peace.Together, we live out our faith in ways that effect change in our communities.
