Christian Education

Our Children and Youth

Welcome back to church -- our doors are open!

The Christian Education Committee is excited to welcome back the children to South Church and to Church School!

Worship will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the children (Pre-K through 5th grade will go straight to Church School, located downstairs in the Community House. Because of the issues and safety around COVID-19, the Christian Education Committee has decided to NOT have the children enter and exit the sanctuary at this point in time. On Sundays, the children will come directly
to the Community House at 10:30 a.m. for Church School and will be dismissed from there following worship. All children will be asked to mask and social distancing will be observed.

Please join us as we come back together to worship, learn, and fellowship together.

Community Service

Attention all high school students: If you are looking for some community service work for school, we have several opportunities available at South Church. Some of these opportunities include helping with the church clean-up day on September 11 and with the preparation of Rally Day on September 25 and 26. There will also be more opportunities coming in the coming month. For more information, please contact Pastor Renee.

Confirmation Class

A confirmation class is being planned for the coming program year at South Church. Because a class has not been offered in several years, we are offering this class to high schoolers this year. We plan to offer another confirmation class next year for younger youth. The class will begin in October and runs through May. Our first meeting is October 24th at 5pm. For this initial meeting, all youth participants, their parent(s)/guardian(s), and mentors are invited. We will meet in The Community House and dinner will be provided.   For more information, you can talk with Rev. Suzi or Pastor Renee.

The Christian Education Committee will be offering a workshop to make Ukrainian Eggs (pysanka) on Saturday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Community House.  These beautiful eggs are made using a wax-resistant method.  Pysanka means "to write" or "to inscribe" as the designs are not painted on but written with beeswax. We will need a minimum number of 25 participants to offer the class and is open to anyone aged 15 and older.  The process of making these eggs will take several hours.  A donation of $20 per participant is suggested and all proceeds will be given to a Ukrainian relief organization.
