Minister Search Committee June 28 2020
The last update from the Search Committee to the congregation was posted on our website and e-mailed mid-June.
The Search Committee and Central Board continue to exchange mutually relevant information as needed, an important part of the search process.
One candidate has been invited to and accepted a “neutral pulpit” which is scheduled for a day in July. The neutral pulpit will be the Search Committee’s fifth meeting with this candidate. As this will be an in-person meeting, a great deal of attention is being given to the logistics for the neutral pulpit to ensure that we minimize the risks associated with COVID-19.
The invitation to a neutral pulpit is but one of the many steps typically taken when both the Search Committee and candidate are seriously interested in one another. This step is part of the discernment process for both parties and, as such, should not be interpreted as meaning that the search for a settled minister is concluded. Indeed, while we recently put a “hold” on new ministerial profiles with the UCC Maine Conference office, we are prepared to resume accepting and reviewing profiles should it become necessary.
We remain mindful that our journey to a settled minister is a step by step process that will reach completion in God’s time.
Please pray with us that we will continue to be discerning, patient, and accepting of whatever God has planned for our community.
Peace and Blessings,
South Church Search Committee
