Pastor Scott P. Kavanagh
Scott, originally from Lynn, Massachusetts, is an ordained American Baptist Minister of over 40 years who served as Minister of three ABC congregations. He retired in the fall of 2013 after serving as Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Syracuse, NY, for 26 years. He and his wife, Jane, moved to Kennebunk, Maine, in June 2017. And they been a part South Congregational Church since that time. And we are grateful that Scott has been no stranger to our pulpit.
The Kavanagh’s have a daughter, Miranda, and son-in-law, Bill, who reside in western Massachusetts. And something most folks don’t know about Scott and Jane is they quietly celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the midst of the pandemic on May 16th with 3 family members and 2 friends.
Scott is licensed in Maine as a Clinical Professional Counselor, Pastoral Counselor and Mental Health Counselor in NYS. He has a private counseling practice in Kennebunk called Lower Village Counseling. He has over forty years experience as a counselor.
Scott’s academic experience includes The Graduate Theological Foundation, D. Min. ‘98, specializing in responding to the needs of people in life changing circumstances. Andover Newton Theological School M. Div. ‘74 and Alderson Broaddus University BA. ‘69. Awards include Ronald Reagan Presidential Recognition Award and Outstanding Pastoral Counselor of Excellence from the American Baptist Churches USA.
