Words from the Minister

Although it seems the snow and cold won’t let up, I do believe the warmth and rising of the sun ever higher in the sky will be the victor. For those of us in the frigid New England area, this image and such thoughts have (slowly) been taking root. We look beyond ourselves as well as within ourselves for the ever present reminders of God being at work; yes, even in the cold- bleak mid-winter. The U.C.C. Lenten devotional presents the image of planting bulbs in our gardens during the fall, knowing full well that the frozen ground of winter is just around the corner. The author of that specific devotion for March 5-Rev. Donna Schaper- speaks of the inspiration she received as a fellow writer was ‘calmly plotting the resurrection’ with such a simple yet profound act. What a remarkable gift and faith to plant seeds of a garden that is destined for tomorrow. Yet we each do this every day when we care for each other, wishing God’s peace for the day’s journey ahead.

‘Calmly plotting the resurrection’ – what a great image to carry as we move through the latter portion of Lent, approach Holy Week and celebrate the resurrection on Easter morning.
