Meet our Organist/Choir Director

David E. Brandes, Organist and Choir Director, came to South Church in January 2015.  Prior to accepting the South Church position, he served as Professor of Music, Music Department Chair, and Director of the Visual and Performing Arts Division at Franklin Pierce University for 43 years.

On three different occasions he received the University’s “Teaching Excellence and Leadership Award”.  Mr. Brandes also served as conductor of the Monadnock Chorus and Orchestra for thirteen years, and as guest conductor for various musical organizations.  He has conducted several international concert tours and held the position of Music Director/Organist for many churches in New England.

At South Church, he has developed a Chime Choir, revitalized the Children’s Choir, and composed many prayer responses, introits, and Chime Choir arrangements.  Mr. Brandes holds music degrees from New England Conservatory and Boston University.  David enjoys the outdoors and is an avid Patriots fan.

Musical News

Returning to South Church for a Fall Concert—The New England Brass Band on Saturday, October 28 at 3:00pm. Co-sponsored by South Congregational Church and the Church on the Cape, the 30 piece brass and percussion players will offer a unique and colorful sound by adhering to the instrumentation of the “British Brass Band” tradition.

Rehearsals for the Adult Choir fall season begin on Thursday, September 7, from 7:15pm to 8:45pm, in the choir room.  The choir provides a wonderful opportunity for fellowship, and to experience the unique beauty of sacred music and the joy of making music with others.

Rehearsals for our Youth Choir will begin on Sunday September 24 in the church, immediately following the worship service and during the post service coffee time.  The rehearsal lasts for only twenty-twenty five minutes in an effort to avoid detaining parents. It is a fun opportunity for our school age young people.
